BTF 2022 NTL Wrap Up

Presidents update – NTL Wrap Up.

Did someone say Golden Boot?

A HUGE congratulations to everyone who participated in the most recent Inferno National Touch League at Coffs Harbour. For those who are unaware, the Brisbane Cobras came away with the Champion Entity for the tournament. It’s been a great 12 months with the Cobras also taking away the Champion Entity at the 2021 National Youth Championship.

A big thankyou and congratulations to all the Coaches, Athletes, Staff, Support Staff and the Board who have been working tirelessly in the background. In total, Cobras sent 18 teams with more than 300 individuals. It was one of the biggest touring groups in the history of the NTL.

A shout out to Stephen Swan who has had to endure a pretty tough 9 months pulling this tour together. Given the challenges he faced with selection trials, nominations, appointments, field arrangements, eligibility, date changes, floods, tournament logistics, support staff and all the other activity in the background, he did an amazing job.

We had 3 Champion teams, Women’s 50’s, Men’s 60’s and our all-conquering All Abilities Tier 1 team. What an amazing final that was too, to win in a drop off, I wasn’t at the ground, however, sitting in our accommodation (with the rest of the Men’s 45’s) jumping out of our chairs when the winning try was scored in a drop off was one of the highlights of the tour.

Other results are as follows:

· Men’s Open – Runners Up

· Women’s Open – 3rd

· Mixed Open – 8th

· Men’s 20’s – 5th

· Women’s 20’s – Runners Up

· Women’s 27’s – 3rd

· Senior Mixed – 3rd

· Men’s 40’s – 3rd

· Women’s 40’s – Runners Up

· Masters Mixed – 7th (they played in Senior Mixed)

· Men’s 45’s – 3rd

· Women’s 45’s – 3rd

· Men’s 50’s – 3rd

· Women’s 50’s – Champions

· Men’s 55’s – Runners Up

· Men’s 60’s – Champions

· All Abilities – Tier 1 – Champions

· All Abilities – Tier 2 – 3rd

Well done to all the coaches – what a fantastic achievement, we thankyou for all your hard work over the last 7 months.

Congratulations to all the Brisbane Referees who also attended. It’d be fair to say that we have some of the best referee’s in the country and it was so great to see them around the fields and taking charge of some of the finals.

Referee Grand Final Appointments

· Men’s Open – Brett Freshwater

· Mixed Open – Campbell Muir

· Men’s 20’s – Jordan Randle & Lachlan Freshwater

· Women’s 20’s – Zoe Genrich

· Senior Mixed – Zac Genrich

Also, congratulations to James Roe and Riley Wotton who received their upgrade to Level 5 and Reef Gilbert-Marino who was upgraded to Level 6.

As per last year, the board is committed to make the NTL experience better and better each year. Please take 10 minutes to share your thoughts and experiences through our NTL Participant Survey, the link can be found HERE, it closes on Wednesday 25th May at 5pm.

It’s a quick turnaround given the 2-month delay and we’ll be calling for coaching nominations for 2023 in the next month or so. If you are interested in coaching any of our divisions in 2023, keep an eye on our socials and our website for nomination details.

Thanks again to all the participants of the 2022 NTL, without your drive and passion for the game, the Cobras franchise wouldn’t be what it is.

Bring on NTL 2023.

Ash Synnott President – Brisbane Touch Football on behalf of the Board.
